Lunch & Learn: Climate, Hurricanes, and Reinsurance
January 22 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
How does climate change affect hurricanes? What do we know about it? How do we make seasonal hurricane forecasts? And how are those used in the reinsurance sector? We’ll dig into these questions along with the emerging science of climate attribution.
Attendees will learn why hurricanes aren’t always the best poster child for climate change.
Who Should Attend?
Anyone interested in hurricanes and their impacts, those interested in the reinsurance industry, and those who communicate the effects of climate change.
Dr. Carl Schreck investigates tropical weather and its impacts around the globe. He engages with partners in private industry to explore how these systems can improve long-range forecasts of weather risk over the United States, including hurricanes, extreme precipitation, and extreme temperatures. Dr. Schreck earned his doctorate in atmospheric science from the University at Albany in 2010 and has been with NCICS ever since.
