(Asheville, N.C. – October 4, 2018): Volunteer software developers from across North Carolina will convene in Raleigh on October 16 to participate in an initiative to make local communities more resilient in the wake of Hurricane Florence.
The Collider, a nonprofit innovation center in Asheville, N.C. that empowers climate data entrepreneurs who help companies, communities, and consumers become resilient to a changing climate, is partnering with IBM Corporate Citizenship’s program to mobilize developers to deliver disaster resiliency tools in support of storm-impacted communities. The Collider and IBM will work with nonprofits working in these communities to identify and deploy relevant and necessary software solutions.
IBM will provide free access to solutions created through a global initiative, Call for Code, that asked developers to outthink natural disasters and build sustainable software solutions to significantly improve the current state of disaster preparedness and recovery across in local communities and around the world.
“We feel great responsibility and see important opportunities to better equip communities and organizations with insights and tools to prepare, act, and recover from extreme weather events,” said Josh Dorfman, CEO of The Collider. We hope that by galvanizing our startup and tech community to assist those impacted by Hurricane Florence we can bring some relief and support to those on the front lines of this massive recovery effort.”
The Collider will leverage its climate innovation ecosystem, anchored in Western North Carolina and extending across the state, to engage in this initiative. The Collider will bring together key volunteer talent including software developers, climate scientists, and data scientists to help configure and deliver tailored solutions to communities that were designed through Call for Code.
Interested software developers should contact Megan Robinson at email@example.com to learn how to participate in the October 16 event and how to volunteer in tailoring and deploying solutions in the upcoming months.
